Reality dating show “Love is Blind” comes to Denver next https://www.denverpost.com/2025/03/10/love-is-blind-denver-reality-dating-show/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 16:13:20 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=6948009 It’s time to stock the wine fridge because the next season of “Love is Blind” will be based in the Mile High City.

On Sunday night, during the Minneapolis cast reunion, the popular reality dating series announced the location of its 9th season. Leaning on friends in the National Football League, the Minnesota Vikings’ Josh Metellus virtually passed the ball to a player from the next host city: the Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton.

While the show did not announce an air date, local fans will likely have to wait many months for the show to hit Netflix.

In 2024, “Love is Blind” released two seasons: one starting on Valentine’s Day and one starting Oct. 2. This year, the show seems to be following that trend. Season 8, based in Minneapolis, aired its first episodes on Feb. 14.

Whenever Denver’s season hits the streaming service later this year, there will be plenty of tea to catch up on. “Love is Blind” cast Denver singles back in 2023 and started filming the season in late February of 2024.

The show’s premise seeks to find out “if love is truly blind,” as hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey often say, by having people date without seeing one another. Instead, they meet up in two individual “pods” separated by a wall and get to know one another by talking. The goal is to build a deep emotional connection and fall in love based solely on personality.

Prospective couples only get to meet face to face once they get engaged. That’s right, they commit sight unseen. Then they have four weeks before their wedding to live together and get to know each other’s families, and ultimately decide whether to stay together as married couple.

“Love is Blind” doesn’t have the best track record. Just one couple from season 8 made it past the altar.

Denver has recently been a hot spot for reality TV filming. In addition to numerous HGTV programs, Lifetime’s “Married at First Sight” debuted a Denver season in 2024.

Former “Bachelorette” and Traitors star from Denver, Gabby Windey, marries longtime girlfriend in Vegas https://www.denverpost.com/2025/03/06/bachelorette-traitors-gabby-windey-denver-marries-girlfriend-wife-engagement/ Thu, 06 Mar 2025 17:53:23 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=6944433 Former Denverite and “Bachelorette” star Gabby Windey has found her happily ever after.

In January, Windey tied the knot with longtime girlfriend, comedian Robby Hoffman, in a 20-minute ceremony in Las Vegas. Speaking with Cosmopolitan magazine, the couple described it less as an elopement and more as making the most of a harrowing situation.

They live together in Los Angeles, and as smoke and ash drifted into their home during the recent spate of wildfires, Windey recalled having to evacuate during similar circumstances in Colorado. It was the middle of the night, so she and Hoffman packed the car with their cat and some keepsakes and started driving to a place they knew would have open hotels. The penthouse suite where they were set up in Las Vegas had that honeymoon suite vibe.

“We had just evacuated from the fires. Literally cue Rihanna, ‘We found love in a hopeless place,’” Gabby told Cosmo. “What better time to get married than right now? Because if the world is ending, we want to be with each other.”

The wedding was a secret for a while. This week, the couple made a formal announcement by sharing pictures from the event on Instagram with the wedding date Jan. 11.

Marriage has been part of Windey’s story since she first appeared on “The Bachelor” in 2022. At the time she was cast, Windey lived in Colorado, where she worked as a nurse and performed on the Denver Broncos cheerleading squad. She then starred as one of two leads on “The Bachelorette” and ended the show by getting engaged to a man named Erich Schwer. However, the two separated shortly after filming wrapped.

A year later, Windey joined the women of “The View” and came out on live television by sharing that she was dating Hoffman.

“And look: I’ve been proposing since the day I met her,” Hoffman told Cosmopolitan. She had already designed a crossword puzzle spelling “WILL YOU MARRY ME, GABBY?” and busted it out during their Las Vegas stay. They celebrated the engagement over crab legs at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel.

The rest was fairly simple: They found a chapel, rings and wedding outfits. The two walked down the aisle to Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” and were married by a female minister in red sneakers.

The total wedding cost: $799. “That included the limousine. That included the photos. That included the minister,” Hoffman said.

The couple returned to Los Angeles to find their home still standing, which may have been the best wedding present of all.

“People are like, ‘How does it feel after you’re married? Does it feel the same?’ And the answer is honestly no — it feels better,” Windey said. “I feel more committed. This is my wife.”

ESPN announces “Around the Horn” will end nearly 23-year run on May 23 https://www.denverpost.com/2025/03/05/espn-around-the-horn-ending/ Wed, 05 Mar 2025 18:40:21 +0000 https://www.denverpost.com/?p=6943205&preview=true&preview_id=6943205 BRISTOL, Conn. — ESPN’s “Around the Horn” will air its final episode on Friday, May 23, ending a nearly 23-year run.

The weekday sports discussion and debate show has been a mainstay at 5 p.m. EST since its debut episode on Nov. 4, 2002. Tony Reali has been the show’s main host since 2004. He replaced Max Kellerman, who was the host for the first two years.

The show, which has had more than 4,900 episodes, features four panelists — mostly sports columnists — who tried to earn points and avoid being muted by Reali as they gave their opinions on the biggest sports stories of the day.

“Around the Horn has had a remarkable run of more than two decades. That kind of longevity in media is incredibly rare, and we look forward to celebrating the show’s many accomplishments before the final sign-off in May,” David Roberts, ESPN’s executive vice president and executive editor for sports news end Entertainment, said in a statement. “Beyond Tony and the ensemble of on-air contributors, we are particularly grateful to the production team led by Erik Rydholm and Aaron Solomon, who have been instrumental in ATH’s consistent success since the very beginning.”

Long-time Denver Post columnist Woody Paige, who holds the show record for most appearances and wins, said on social media after the announcement, “My records will never be broken. But my heart is broken.”

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes added: “The show that gave me the confidence to even believe someone like me could do TV. Will be forever grateful to the producers, and also Tony Reali, who models kindness and intelligence in a way that’s all too rare these days.

ESPN announced that a 30-minute edition of “SportsCenter” will air in the 5 p.m. EST weekday spot during the summer.

“Pardon The Interruption,” featuring Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser, has aired at 5:30 p.m. EST since Oct. 22, 2001, but there have been no announcements on its future.
